November is National Adoption Month. But we, at Adoption Associates, celebrate adoption all year long. We celebrate the commitment and hard work of our individual clients and families, not to mention all the service providers who help with their support.
Though the names and identities have been changed for purposes of privacy, the K family is just one example of such a family. The parents initially brought their two pre-teen adopted children for counseling, to get help for their fighting and rivalry for the attention of their parents. They were in an orphanage the first two years of life, and had clinging behaviors and anxiety. Each child got their own individual therapist, who helped them tell their stories, and vent their feelings, in a safe and confidential space. The parents, who were having some severe marital problems, due to job loss and financial instability, were arguing all the time. The tension and fighting in the household was overwhelming, to all four family members. The parents decided they needed professional help too, so, to their credit, all members of the family got help! As the parents learned how to communicate and work as a team, the children also stopped fighting. Family meetings allowed everyone to have a voice so that they could use appropriate and caring ways of expressing their needs and feelings to one another.
This is just one example of the commitment and hard work we see. We celebrate you!!!
