INSIDE OUT: The Expressive Arts Adoption Healing Seminar is a new day-long workshop which offers the adoption constellation an opportunity to identify wounds and challenges, and use creative expression and light spiritual practices to foster healing. Creators and Facilitators Craig Hyman and Patrick McMahon are both adoptees who have experienced the depth of separation trauma from blood relatives, as well as the transformative, healing process of the mind, body, and spirit. Through Inside Out, they aim to foster personal growth for adoptees, parents, extended family and professionals, and to educate and enlighten broader society about the long-term effects of separation and connection.
Inside Out has been presented around the country over the past year and is now scheduled in Boston for Sunday, November 24. This is the Sunday BEFORE Thanksgiving.
During the seminar, attendees will experience a safe environment in which a variety of creative expression techniques will be used, each led by Craig and Patrick. These may include meditation, movement, collage, journaling, role-play, art exercises and more. These techniques will assist attendees in accessing deep wounds, whether they be pre-verbal feelings and experiences or current challenges related to adoption. Throughout the day, there will be opportunities to externalize these wounds, leading to a sense of release and resolution. The day will conclude with a group dialog and playful closing to promote a smooth transition out of the seminar, identify tools for continuing growth and empowerment, and encourage a sense of community and ongoing support.
Craig and Patrick developed Inside Out because after 20+ years of personal journey, various forms of personal healing, and doing workshops at many national conferences, they realized how effective expressive arts and spiritual practices are, and how little of it is currently being offered. Response and interest has been amazing. They are working with people around the country and internationally to bring Inside Out to as many locations as possible.
