We can help you learn about and access the best professional help available.  We will support you in coping with the emotional stress involved.

1. Can you help me evaluate the different choices available to me for starting and/ or building my family?
  • donor egg and insemination
  • high technology surrogacy and gestational carriers
  • adoption

2. If I am considering assisted reproductive technologies:
  • How does what I chose to do affect the way I discuss my child’s origins with him or her?
  • What is my right and my child’s right to privacy, and how does this differ from “secrecy?”
  • Can you help me find the right resources?

3. If I am considering adoption:

  • How do I know I am ready to adopt?
  • What kind of adoption is right for me, ie, newborn vs. older child, domestic vs. international, trans-cultural?
  • What is involved in the adoption process?
  • Can you help me find the right agency for me?

4. If I am already a parent by assisted reproduction or adoption:

  • In looking at my child’s behaviors, how do I know what is adoption-related, and what is age appropriate development?
  • Is there a “right time,” and what is the “right way” to talk with my child about his/ her adoption and origins?

5. If I joined my family through adoption:

  • I often wonder about my birth family.  Do other adopted kids think about this too?
  • I have been thinking about researching my birth family, perhaps contacting them.  How do I do this, and what does it mean to my parents?
